چکیده

An experiment was conducted during 2014–18 at Agricultural Research Station, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State University, Karimnagar, to find out the relationship between heterosis, potence ratio and genetic distance for yield contributing characters in maize (Zea mays L.). Heterosis trait dependent exhibiting high level plant height, ear length, kernels/row, 100-kernel weight, grain fodder yield. Two hybrids BML-51 × BML-14 (22.1%) BML-6 (13.2%) recorded heterosis of greater than 10% over check NK6240 exhibited negative flowering maturity traits positive remaining traits. Potence indicated that majority had dominance gene effect expressed diameter, suggesting breeding is an appropriate strategy improvement these Standard 5% observed 7 crosses 6 belonged mid parental divergence group. Five crosses, viz. BML-14, BML-7, BML-6, BML-32 BML-13 with ranging from 7637 8733 kg/ha medium group comprising yielding inbreds, or as parents. Grain found significant positively correlated length weight. Therefore maximize full potential hybrids, inbreds per se performance intermediate are be involved crop programmes.

Genetic Analysis for Yield Potential and Quality Traits in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Abstract: Grain yield is a complex phenomenon which results from the interaction of various contributing factors highly influenced by environmental variation. Phenotypic selection cannot directly improve the characters in heterozygous crops like maize unless dissected by genetic analysis. Gene action for various quantitative and qualitative traits was explored in a complete set of diallel invol...

COMBINING ABILITY AND HETEROSIS IN MAIZE (Zea mays L.)

A line × tester analysis was conducted in maize involving 12 lines and 3 testers for grain yield and its components to determine the heterosis as well as general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects. Highly significant genotypic differences were observed indicated wide range of variability present among the genotypes. GCA and SCA variance for yield per plant numb...

Estimation of heterosis for grain yield components in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Heterosis plays an important role in achieving improvement in crop production. About 69 F 1 hybrids obtained by crossing twenty three lines and three testers in a line × tester fashion were used to derive the information on degree of heterosis over mid, better and standard parent in maize. Sixty nine crosses and their parents including one check CoH(M)5 were evaluated in a Randomized Block Desi...

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Gibberellins Promote Brassinosteroids Action and Both Increase Heterosis for Plant Height in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Brassinosteroids (BRs) and Gibberellins (GAs) are two classes of plant hormones affecting plant height (PHT). Thus, manipulation of BR and GA levels or signaling enables optimization of crop grain and biomass yields. We established backcross (BC) families, selected for increased PHT, in two elite maize inbred backgrounds. Various exotic accessions used in the germplasm enhancement in maize proj...
